The History....

Hospitality and Summer Camp Ministry have been around for over a century.  This history is by no means complete and more of a working history.  So if you have anything to add please email in.

History of ECCC, Inc.

Before we get into the big picture, we thought we would start of the history of us, ECCC, Inc.

In the late nineteen sixties, camp and conference ministries ceased to have professional staff support at the national level. By 1974, an informal group of camp and conference center executives had begun to meet on a regular basis. With some financial support from the Episcopal Church Center, and the assistance of two directors in the field, the meetings became more organized, and a newsletter was added. Consultations are currently carried out by Jack Andersen, who was at the time the director of diocesan-related conference center.

In December of 1989, ECCC, "Episcopal Camps and Conference Centers" came into being. We were incorporated in May of 1990 as a nonprofit organization for religious, charitable and educational purposes. The Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society of the Episcopal Church accepted us shortly thereafter as a part of their 501 C-3 tax exempt status.

ECCC is managed by a rotating board of directors who are elected by dues-paying members. ECCC also employs a part time Executive Director, The Rev. Jack Andersen.

In November 2005, Jack Andersen retired and then the role and responsibilities of Executive Director were divided into two positions, Executive Director and Director of Member Services. Peter Bergstrom, Executive Director of Camp Stevens in Julian, CA is the new Executive Director and Joe Chamberlain, Executive Director of Camp Weed and the Cerveny Conference Center in Live Oak, FL is the Director of Member Services. The national office is now located in Live Oak, FL.

In Fall 2007, it was decided to combine offices and the National Office moved to Julian, California. It is currently under the leadership of an membership elected Board of Directors, Peter Bergstrom - Executive Director and Bill Slocumb - Director of Member Services.
